People Attempted to Travel With Forged Documents

Despite the rapid increase in traffic during the tourist season, attempts by some people to travel from Paphos airport to European destinations, mainly France, using forged or stolen documents are not going away.

In recent days, members of the Police at Paphos Airport have made new arrests of persons in relation to investigated cases of forgery, circulation of forged documents, and impersonation.

These persons went to the airport in order to depart on flights to European countries such as France, Italy, or Malta, but during passport control, it was found that their documents were not valid.

The latest case was recorded when a passenger presented a passport of a European country. When questioned, the man admitted that the passport in question was not genuine and gave his true identity.

According to the police, he is a third-country national who, as he told the investigators, illegally entered the Republic of Cyprus.

In another case, a man presented to police officers a European country identity card, which was checked and found to be lost or stolen. When questioned, the person in question admitted that the identity card did not belong to him and presented his true identity.

According to the police, he is a third-country national, aged 29, a political asylum seeker, while further checking through Interpol, it was found that the European identity card he presented was registered as stolen from February 2023.
