Russian Defense Minister Shoigu visited Mariupol

CentralAsia (CA) –  The Russian Ministry of Defense has shown footage of Minister Sergei Shoigu’s visit to Mariupol. According to the press service of the department, there he “checked the work of the Military Construction Complex of the Russian Defense Ministry to restore the infrastructure of Donbass.” When the trip took place, the department did not specify.

“In the city of Mariupol in the Donetsk People’s Republic, the head of the Russian military department inspected the readiness of the already commissioned facilities and the progress of work at the sites of buildings and structures under construction. Among other things, Sergei Shoigu was presented with a multifunctional medical center built by military builders, the republican rescue center of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and a new microdistrict of 12 five-story residential buildings, ”the message says.

During the visit, the minister heard a report on “the construction of the largest water conduit connecting the Rostov Region and the Donetsk People’s Republic from the Don River to the Seversky Donets-Donbass Canal.” The conduit is expected to provide “many communities in the region”.

On March 4, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that Sergei Shoigu had inspected the command post of one of the formations of the Vostok group of forces in the South Donetsk direction in the zone of the “military operation” in Ukraine. On the same day, the minister held a meeting with his deputies at the headquarters of the joint group of troops, including the provision of weapons to the military. On March 5, Shoigu held a meeting with the commanders of the groupings of troops in the “military operation” zone in Ukraine.

In August 2022, the Ministry of Construction of the Russian Federation announced plans to restore Mariupol in three years. The mayor of the city, Oleg Morgun, said that more than 400 buildings were to be demolished. According to him, it is planned to complete the demolition in 2023.
