The Supreme National Security Council of Romania has decided to negotiate the purchase of the most modern American F-35 fighters.
According to European Pravda, this became known from the communiqué following the meeting.
At the meeting of this body, which is chaired by the President of Romania, they discussed, among other things, the development of Romanian military aviation, air and missile defense, as well as long-range precision weapons, so that the country is ready to fulfill its obligations as a NATO member and deter potential aggression.
“The process of modernizing the air force will continue with the purchase of the latest generation of F-35 fighters. These aircraft, equipped with a wide range of modern sensors, capable of exchanging encrypted information in real time with air and ground systems, the ability to actually control the operational picture on the battlefield, carry “smart” high-precision projectiles make it possible to ensure and maintain air superiority, which is a prerequisite for ensuring sovereignty in the country’s airspace and, if necessary, its defense,” the statement says.
According to the Romanian Digi24, President Klaus Iohannis said last year that Romania was considering such a solution.
Recall that only about half of the fleet of F-35 fighters in service with the US Army are considered suitable for their missions , which is well below the target of 65%.
