In 2022, almost every day, one Russian received a Bulgarian passport; in total, 356 of them were issued to citizens of the Russian Federation last year.

According to European Pravda, Euractiv reports this with reference to Segabg.com research data.

A total of 7,410 people acquired citizenship in 2022 based on Bulgarian origin, Bulgarian citizen parents or general naturalization.

At the same time, Russians rank only seventh among recipients of Bulgarian citizenship in 2022. Macedonians (1992) are in the lead, followed by Ukrainians (1639), Turks (1290), Serbs (556), Albanians (517) and Moldovans (476).

In 2021, 479 Russian citizens received Bulgarian passports, up from 485 a year earlier.

In addition, according to data for 2019, Russians own more than 300 thousand properties in Bulgaria, mainly on the sea coast.

Since 2022, Bulgaria has banned the so-called “golden passports”, which are issued in exchange for large investments in the country.

Recall that in December 2022, Bulgaria canceled 12 so-called “golden passports” .
