Namibia has lifted the ban on the importation and in-transit movement of live poultry, birds and poultry products from Spain, following the regaining of freedom status from highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) of that country.

The import ban on poultry and poultry products from Spain was imposed due to the outbreak of HPAI in Europe in December, 2022 and Spain has regained its HPAI disease freedom status as of March 11, Chief Veterinary Officer Albertina Shilongo said Wednesday in a statement.

According to Shilongo, only birds and poultry hatched on or after April 14, 2023, as well as poultry meat and meat products hatched on or after April 14, will be allowed entry into Namibia.
